Day 1 — Grand Socco & the medina
Begin at the Grand Socco (Place du 9 Avril 1947), the plaza that links the modern city to the old town, then pass through the keyhole gate of Bab el-Fahs into the medina's whitewashed lanes.

Things to do · Tangier
Two days is enough to see the best of Tangier without rushing: a first day on foot in the old town, a second on the Atlantic capes. Here is a sensible two-day plan, stop by stop.

Begin at the Grand Socco (Place du 9 Avril 1947), the plaza that links the modern city to the old town, then pass through the keyhole gate of Bab el-Fahs into the medina's whitewashed lanes.
Pause at the Petit Socco, the small square at the heart of the medina ringed by faded cafés and the city's oldest hotels — long the haunt of Tangier's writers and traders.
Climb to the fortified kasbah on the high point of the old town. The 17th-century Dar el-Makhzen palace now houses the Kasbah Museum of Mediterranean Cultures, with mosaics and a Roman-era collection.
End the day at Café Hafa, open since 1921 and built into clifftop terraces above the sea. Mint tea here comes with a view across the Strait of Gibraltar toward Spain.
Drive about 20 minutes west to Cap Spartel, the 19th-century lighthouse on the headland where the Atlantic meets the Mediterranean, with sweeping cliff-top sea views.
Just south of the cape, walk the part-natural, part-quarried Caves of Hercules, whose sea opening is said to resemble the map of Africa. Achakar beach below is good for a midday stop.
Back in the medina, visit the American Legation — the only U.S. National Historic Landmark on foreign soil — which traces Moroccan-American ties from 1777 and has a wing on writer Paul Bowles.
Finish on the 'Idlers' Terrace', a clifftop promenade on Boulevard Pasteur lined with old cannons, looking out over the port and bay and, on clear days, the Spanish coast.
Yes. Two days lets you cover the old town — kasbah, medina, Grand and Petit Socco — on the first day, and the Atlantic capes at Cap Spartel and the Caves of Hercules on the second, at a relaxed pace.
Spend day one on foot in the medina and kasbah, ending at Café Hafa for sunset, and day two on the coast west of the city — Cap Spartel and the Caves of Hercules are only about 20 minutes' drive away.
With only two days it is better to focus on the city and capes. If you have a third day, Asilah (about 45 minutes south) or Chefchaouen (about 2 to 2.5 hours) make excellent day trips.
