Yes — you can take a private guided Tangier tour as a day trip from Spain. Cross on the fast ferry from Tarifa to Tangier Ville (about an hour, docking in the city centre), and your guide meets you at the port. What's included in a ferry-day tour

Every tour on this page is built for travellers arriving by ferry from Spain. The point is to take the friction out of a day trip — the port touts, the timing, the language — and hand you a city that suddenly feels easy.

  • Meet-and-greet at Tangier Ville port the moment you clear immigration
  • A private, licensed local guide (English, French or Spanish)
  • An itinerary shaped around your exact ferry arrival and last departure
  • Private vehicle with driver for Cap Spartel, Chefchaouen and the Strait drives
  • Help with the medina, the souks and a genuine (non-tourist) lunch spot
  • A 24/7 WhatsApp line and a guide who watches the clock so you make the boat

The ferry ticket itself you book directly with the operator — we shape the tour to fit around it. Read the practical detail in our Spain-to-Tangier ferry guide and the day-trip-from-Spain walkthrough.

The tours people cross from Spain for

These are real, bookable tours from our Tangier catalogue, chosen because they fit between ferry sailings. The medina walk and food evening start at the port on foot; Cap Spartel, the Strait and Chefchaouen are private drives. Tap any tour for the full itinerary.

Kasbah, Caves of Hercules — or Chefchaouen?

If you have one day and want the city

Do the kasbah and medina walk from the port on foot in the morning, then add Cap Spartel and the Caves of Hercules by car in the afternoon. That is the classic Tangier day from Spain: the old city, the lighthouse where the Atlantic meets the Mediterranean, and the famous Africa-shaped sea cave — back at the port in good time for the evening ferry.

If you want the blue city

The Chefchaouen day trip is possible from the earliest Tarifa crossing, but it is a long, full day — roughly two hours each way into the Rif. We will only recommend it if your ferry times genuinely allow the round trip with a safe buffer. Otherwise, save it for a trip where you stay a night in Tangier.

If you want the Strait and the sea

The Strait of Gibraltar drive to Cap Malabata gives you views straight back across the water to Spain — you can watch the very ferries you crossed on. Pair it with the medina walk for a relaxed, view-led day.

Practical: planning the day

  • Book Tarifa → Tangier Ville, not Algeciras → Tanger Med. Only Tangier Ville lands you in the city, beside the medina.
  • Mind the time difference. Morocco usually runs one to two hours behind mainland Spain. Work out the last sailing in Spanish time and set your phone on landing — your guide tracks both.
  • Bring your passport. Border police usually stamp it on board the fast ferry — queue early, and keep the disembarkation slip.
  • Send us your ferry tickets. Once we have your arrival and return times we shape the tour to fit, with a written quote in 24 hours.

Frequently asked

Can I do a guided Tangier tour as a day trip from Spain?

Yes — this is exactly what most of our morning bookings are. Take the fast ferry from Tarifa to Tangier Ville (roughly one hour, docking in the city centre), and a private guide meets you at the port. A half-day walking tour of the kasbah and medina, or a drive to Cap Spartel and the Caves of Hercules, both fit comfortably between the morning and last-evening sailings with time for lunch. We watch the ferry timetable so you never miss the boat back.

Which ferry should I take from Spain for a Tangier tour?

Take the fast catamaran from Tarifa to Tangier Ville — it is the only crossing that lands you in the city centre, a short walk from the medina, in about an hour. Crossings from Algeciras and most other ports go to Tanger Med, a freight port around 40 km east of the city, which adds a transfer at each end and shortens your time. For a tour day, Tarifa to Tangier Ville is the one to book.

Where does the guide meet me when I arrive from Spain?

At the exit of Tangier Ville passenger port, holding a sign with your name, once you have cleared Moroccan immigration. The port is a five-minute walk from the medina, so a walking tour can begin straight away. For driving tours (Cap Spartel, Chefchaouen) your driver-guide and private vehicle are waiting at the port car park. We send the exact meeting pin and your guide's WhatsApp number when you book.

How much time do I actually have in Tangier on a day trip from Spain?

On the standard Tarifa schedule you usually land mid-morning and the last comfortable sailing back leaves in the early evening, giving roughly five to seven usable hours on the ground. That is enough for a half-day medina-and-kasbah walk plus lunch, or one driving excursion such as Cap Spartel and the Caves of Hercules. Chefchaouen is possible on the earliest crossing but makes for a long, full day — we will tell you honestly if your ferry times allow it.

Do I need my passport, and is there a time difference?

Always bring your passport — Tangier is in Morocco, a non-EU country, so you leave Schengen and get a Moroccan entry stamp (an ID card is not enough). On the Tarifa fast ferry, border police usually stamp passports on board, so queue early. Morocco also generally runs one to two hours behind mainland Spain depending on the season and Ramadan, which catches people out. Your guide tracks both times so your tour ends with a safe buffer before the last boat.

Are these tours private or shared with other ferry passengers?

Private. Every tour on this page is run just for your party — solo travellers, couples, families or small groups up to six — with your own guide and, where relevant, your own vehicle. You are not herded onto a coach with eighty other day-trippers. The pace, the stops and the lunch spot are yours to set.

Can you guarantee I make the last ferry back to Spain?

It is the single thing we plan the day around. Your guide knows the day's final Tarifa departure (in Spanish time), builds in a buffer for the return immigration queue, and gets you to the port in good time. If you are also booking the ferry yourself, send us your tickets and we will shape the tour to fit. We never let a tour run so late that the boat becomes a gamble.

What does a Tangier tour from Spain cost, and how do I book?

Pricing depends on the tour you choose, party size and whether a vehicle is involved — a half-day medina walk is our most affordable option, driving excursions and Chefchaouen cost more. Tell us your ferry date and arrival time through the contact form and we send a written quote within 24 hours, with the meeting point and guide details. The ferry ticket itself is booked separately with the operator.
