Why Agadir
Agadir is the warm-water antidote to the breezy Mediterranean north: rebuilt after the 1960 earthquake into Morocco's premier beach resort, with a sweeping crescent of golden sand, a palm-lined promenade and more than 300 days of sun a year. This is sea, surf and downtime rather than old medinas — though the rebuilt kasbah crowns the bay, the surf village of Taghazout sits just north, and the palm-shaded pools of Paradise Valley hide in the Anti-Atlas behind. For travellers who began on the cool Atlantic at Tangier, Agadir is where the same ocean finally turns warm enough to swim.
What to see
A 10 km golden bay with calm, warm swimming, beach clubs and one of Morocco's finest seafront walks — the south's answer to a Tangier corniche, only the water's swimmable.
A bohemian surf village 20 minutes north — point breaks, yoga, argan-oil co-ops and sunset cafés, the laid-back heart of Morocco's southern surf scene.
Palm-fringed natural pools and waterfalls cut into the Anti-Atlas, an hour inland — the region's best half-day escape, and worlds away from the Rif gorges of the north.
The hilltop ruins of the old fortress, reached now by cable car, with a sweeping view over the bay and working port below.

If you're after beach, sun and surf rather than old-city character, yes — Agadir is the country's best resort base, with reliable sunshine all year and easy reach of Taghazout and Paradise Valley. It's the warm-water south, a deliberate contrast to the historic north.
Agadir is sunnier, warmer and more resort-oriented with a bigger beach; Essaouira is windier but far more atmospheric, a walled port closer in spirit to Tangier and Asilah. Many of our guests take in both along the southern coast.
