Why Ouzoud Falls
Three hours from Marrakech, the Cascades d'Ouzoud are the country's most beautiful waterfalls — a 110-metre triple drop into a green gorge, often hung with rainbows in the afternoon spray. A shaded path winds down past olive groves and old water mills (ouzoud means 'olives' in Berber), with troops of wild Barbary macaques along the way and small boats ferrying visitors to the foot of the falls. It's the lush, central-Atlas counterpart to the northern Rif cascades at Akchour — a different range, a different green, on the long way down from Tangier.
What to see
A 110m three-tier fall thundering into a green pool — walk to the base or take a small boat out into the spray for the rainbow at close range.
Wild, semi-habituated monkeys live in the olive and oak woods along the path — the same species you'll meet in the Azrou cedars up north; keep your distance and your snacks zipped away.
A gentle trail carries on below the falls into a green river gorge lined with riverside cafés and swimming spots — an easy, leafy walk far from the desert south.

Yes — it's the most rewarding nature day from the city: dramatic waterfalls, wild monkeys and a green gorge, a complete change from the medina and the desert. Go early to beat the afternoon crowds. Northern travellers often find it the green relief they last felt in the Rif.
About 2.5 hours each way. A private day gives you several hours at the falls and a lunch over the cascades before returning by evening.
