Who can enter visa-free

Morocco grants visa-free entry for tourism, typically up to 90 days, to citizens of a long list of countries — among them the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, all EU/Schengen states, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and many others. You simply arrive, clear immigration and receive an entry stamp. This applies equally at Tangier's Ibn Battouta Airport and at the ferry terminals at Tanger Med and the city port.

Always confirm your specific nationality's status before booking, as policies can change. If your country is not on the visa-free list, you may need to apply for a visa or an e-visa in advance.

At the border

Have these ready and the entry process is quick, whether you fly into Tangier (TNG) or step off the fast ferry from Tarifa or Algeciras. On the ferry crossing, a Moroccan immigration officer often stamps you in on board before you dock, so keep your passport handy.

  • A passport valid for at least six months beyond your arrival date.
  • Proof of onward or return travel (occasionally requested).
  • Your accommodation address for the arrival card.
  • An entry stamp — keep it; you'll need the matching exit stamp when you leave, including on the return ferry to Spain.

Staying longer

The standard tourist entry is 90 days. To stay longer you must apply for an extension at a local police station before your stamp expires, or leave and re-enter — a quick day return to Tarifa is a common move, though border officers have discretion, so plan properly rather than relying on a hop across the Strait.

Frequently asked

How long can tourists stay in Morocco?

Up to 90 days on the standard visa-free tourist entry. Extensions are possible through a local police station before your entry stamp expires.

Do I need a visa to take the ferry from Spain to Tangier?

No — the same 90-day visa-free rules apply on the ferry as at the airport. Bring your passport for the on-board or terminal immigration check at Tarifa, Algeciras, Tanger Med or the city port.
