Tangier in 3 Days: City, Coast & a Day Trip

Three days to do Tangier properly: the kasbah and medina, the Atlantic capes west of town, and a day trip out to the whitewashed seaside town of Asilah. The version our concierge builds most for first-timers in the north.

    Day 1

    Kasbah, medina & literary cafés

Start high in the Kasbah quarter at the Kasbah Museum, then drift down through the medina to the Petit Socco. Tangier's mid-century writers' haunts are here — the Gran Café de Paris on Place de France and the Café Hafa above the sea, open since 1921 with views toward Spain.

    Day 2

Cap Spartel & the Caves of Hercules

West to Cap Spartel where two seas meet, then the Caves of Hercules with their Africa-shaped opening to the Atlantic. Stop at the Roman ruins of Cotta and lunch at Achakar beach before returning along the corniche.

    Day 3

    Asilah day trip

Drive about 45 minutes south down the Atlantic coast to Asilah, a relaxed walled town of blue-and-white ramparts, painted murals and Portuguese sea walls. Browse the galleries, walk the medina and have grilled fish by the harbour before heading back.

    • Asilah ramparts
    • Painted medina murals
    • Portuguese sea walls
    • Harbour seafood

Good to know

Practical notes

  • Tangier has an international airport (TNG) and frequent ferries from Tarifa and Algeciras in Spain.
  • Asilah is an easy half- to full-day from Tangier by car or grand taxi; the medina is best on foot.
  • Café Hafa is cash-only and busiest at sunset — go a little earlier for a sea-view table.

Frequently asked

Is 3 days enough for Tangier?

Yes — three days lets you cover the kasbah, medina and cafés, the Cap Spartel and Caves of Hercules coast, and a relaxed day trip to Asilah without rushing.

What is the best day trip from Tangier in 3 days?

Asilah, the painted walled town 45 minutes south, is the easiest. Chefchaouen, the blue city, is also reachable in around two hours but works better with an overnight.
